Oil coolers

In most engines, oil coolers are used to selectively reduce the oil temperature. Due to the temperature output to the engine's coolant circuit, the oil temperature can be reduced by up to 30°C. As oil coolers are difficult to clean, Motorservice recommends always replacing this component.

Oil coolers for passenger cars

We have expanded our product range to include oil coolers for passenger cars under the Pierburg premium brand. They are available as engine oil coolers and transmission oil coolers. The matching seals are included in the scope of supply.

The 57 OE-quality products, including five oil cooler modules, already offer repair shops a market potential of over 200 million vehicles worldwide – and the range of products is continuously being expanded.

Oil cooler modules for passenger cars

Under the Pierburg brand, we offer not only individual oil coolers but also pre-assembled oil cooler modules. These consist of an oil cooler, oil filter housing, oil filter and the required gaskets. Pre-assembly offers enormous time and cost savings in the repair shop.

We are one of the few suppliers in the independent aftermarket segment with these oil cooler modules.

Oil coolers for utility vehicles

The existing oil cooler range for utility vehicles and industrial applications has also been considerably expanded. Under the BF brand, we offer oil coolers for almost 40 of the most common engine applications in utility vehicles from Deutz, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault Trucks, Scania and Volvo.

Unregulated Oil pumps

Oil pumps ensure that engine parts are supplied with a sufficient quantity of lubricating oil. For sufficient cooling and lubrication, the total oil volume must be pumped 4 to 6 times per minute through the engine. 

Moreover, the oil pump design must ensure that the lubricating points are supplied with fresh oil as fast as possible after cold starting, and the flow rate is always adequate even at low engine speeds.

Variable Oil pumps

To reduce CO2 emissions, Pierburg has developed variable oil pumps. With oil-hydraulic tasks, which are in part new, such as hydraulic valve clearance and camshaft compensation, piston cooling and many more, modern engines require disproportionately large oil volumetric flows, particularly at lower engine speeds. 

The delivery rate of the variable oil pumps can be adapted flexibly to the required oil volumetric flow, depending on the temperature, speed and load state of the engine. They help to deliver the oil when required, and thus save fuel.

Tandem pumps vacuum/oil

In tandem pumps, supply pumps for different media are combined on a common axle. While the single-vane vacuum pump generates the vacuum for the brake booster, the connected oil pump takes over either the function of the main oil pump or draws in excess oil from the cylinder head as an oil suction pump.

To ensure sufficient cooling and lubrication, the oil pump must pump the entire volume of oil through the engine 4 - 6 times per minute. Moreover, its design must ensure that the lubricating points are supplied with fresh oil as fast as possible after cold starting, and the flow rate is always adequate even at low engine speeds.

Take hydraulic valve timing systems or aluminium alloy engine blocks, for example – modern engines need increasing amounts of oil and lubricant. At the same time, the pump's power consumption must be radically reduced, to keep CO2 emissions as low as possible.

What with their many hydraulic tasks - some of them new - such as hydraulic valve clearance and camshaft compensation, piston cooling and a great deal more, modern engines require disproportionately high flow rates of oil, especially in the low speed range. In conventional, fixed speed pumps, their direct dependence on engine speed results in considerable power losses at higher speeds. Mechanically or electrically controlled oil pumps, on the other hand, enable a demand-based flow rate independent of speed, ensuring better efficiency.

Long life and high efficiency are the yardsticks by which we measure our oil pumps.

  • Oil pumps are generally replaced in their entirety. They are not intended to be reconditioned.
  • Oil pumps have a long service life, but this may be reduced by maintenance errors, poor oil quality, oil dilution, dirt or engine damage. It may therefore be necessary to change the oil pump early.
