Sustancias diluidas
A special instance of contamination occurs as the result of released chemical substances.
If low-quality materials are used when fitting new parts in the fuel system (e.g. replacement of fuel lines, filters), substances such as vulcanisation accelerators, additives and plasticizers can be released from them, and so get into the fuel. Here, all pump components were covered with a yellow coating. This substance, which adhered firmly to the surface of the components, was crystalline and insoluble in water and fuel.
The commutators were not corroded or attacked by chemicals, but because of the non-conductive nature of the coating, the commutators were electrically insulated from the carbon.
